One-hundred and fifty years ago Miss Julia Johns and a group of six “charitably disposed” women recognized the unfulfilled healthcare needs of Alexandria, and decided to do something about it. They joined together to form the Board of Lady Managers, which founded Alexandria Hospital in 1872. Today, the Board continues our legacy of fundraising to support the hospital’s priorities.
Working closely with hospital leadership, the Board this year has committed to raise funds for a Brevera Breast Biopsy System (Brevera Breast Biopsy System). This $80,000 system, which will be a part of the Mark Center Mammography Program, allows the Radiologist and Technologist to stay in the room with the patient the entire time of a breast biopsy, as well as producing real-time imaging verification, speeding up the procedure and allowing the patient to be released out of compression sooner. The Board is proud to be supporting the acquisition of this system, which is so important to women’s healthcare.
Throughout 2022-2023, the Board of Lady Managers is organizing and conducting fundraising activities, such as our annual Little Theatre event, our Bake Sale, our Sara Campbell event, and this year, our 150th Anniversary Gala luncheon and fashion show. All proceeds go towards our $80,000 pledge to the Brevera Breast Biopsy System.
Please join us at one of our events this year, and help support our women’s healthcare efforts.
